The exhibition of Krkonoše Museum tells the story of the mountain landscape from natural processes through water, forests, meadows and animals to the people who gradually settled, used and transformed the Krkonoše Mountains. Visitors can discover not only the beauty of the mountains, but also their fragility – and understand why the Krkonoše are a national park and why they deserve to be approached with respect.
A strong part of the visit is the connection between nature and the human story. The exhibition recalls mountain crafts, chalet farming, glassmaking, forestry and the ways people lived and worked in the mountains. Playful elements are prepared for children, and they can also explore the exhibition through a museum game, making the visit a good family programme in bad weather as well as a meaningful stop between trips.
The place itself also has a strong atmosphere. Krkonoše Museum is located in a former Augustinian monastery in Vrchlabí, whose Baroque buildings are a cultural monument and today house one of the largest exhibitions about the Krkonoše Mountains. A trip to the museum can easily be combined with a walk through Vrchlabí, a visit to the monastery garden or another programme in the town, which is often described as one of the gateways to the Krkonoše Mountains.
