During a tour of Rautis, visitors can see how a beaded ornament is made – from blowing glass beads to silvering, colouring and cutting, and finally threading them into the finished shape. It is a slow and precise craft in which every step has its place, and every ornament passes through the hands of several people before it takes its final form.
The production of beaded Christmas ornaments from Poniklá was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2020. Rautis is therefore not just a shop selling ornaments, but a living place where you can see a craft that has not survived in this form anywhere else.
