With a Blanket in Search of Views
Northern Bohemia is renowned for its breathtaking overlooks, and we certainly can't leave them out of our list. Not far from Mimoň, in the village of Vranov, you’ll find the Julia's Lookout rock formation, offering stunning views all the way to Bezděz Castle. If you park at the "Sídliště pod Ralskem" lot, you can combine your visit with a pleasant stroll through the Vranov Avenue. And while you’re in the area, don’t forget to stop by the famous Ralsko Ice Cream Parlor, which offers countless traditional and unconventional flavors.
Another spot perfect for a romantic picnic is Kryštofovo Údolí. From the Novina train stop, head up the hillside to find that perfect little spot overlooking the impressive Novina Viaduct. For those who prefer views without the climb, the popular Vyhlídka nad Žlábkem, overlooking the Bohemian Paradise (Český ráj), is located right by the road. It offers comfortable facilities for even the most unplanned picnics, including tables, benches, and even a small caravan café, so you can relax even without a full backpack.
Romance in the Castle Park
Staying in Bohemian Paradise, let's move to its romantic chateaus. The sprawling English park, manicured paths, mature trees, and quiet corners of Sychrov Castle practically beg you to spread out a blanket and enjoy a snack. Hrubý Rohozec Castle near Turnov goes even a step further. In addition to tours, they offer the option to rent a picnic blanket at the castle café. Simply bring your own treats or order directly on-site, find a cozy spot in the park, and enjoy the atmosphere of an aristocratic residence from a different perspective.
Peace Among the Hills
In the Jizera Mountains, you can head to the Riedel Tomb in Desná, where a remarkable monument is set amidst lush greenery. We understand it’s a somewhat unconventional place for a snack, but the view and the tranquility of the surroundings are definitely worth it.
Moving over to the Giant Mountains, specifically to Rokytnice nad Jizerou, you might already know the famous lookouts in the Na Stráži Forest Park. But did you know there are also several picturesque chapels nearby that don't attract crowds? Our favorite is the Chapel of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, which offers a view of the Rokytnice valley from the opposite side of the well-known observation towers. There are more chapels to discover – you just have to look closely.
Calm Lake Waters
What better place to wrap up this article than the romantic Máchovo jezero. Away from the main beaches, you can find quiet spots—for example, between Borný and Staré Splavy—where you can spread your blanket under the pine trees and enjoy the water view with good food at hand. If you’re looking for a less crowded alternative, we recommend Hamerské jezero; it’s smaller, quieter, and just as charming.
