The climb to Bezděz is part of the experience. The path through the forest, the Stations of the Cross and the views gradually opening up along the way prepare visitors for a castle that feels authentic rather than polished. Inside the complex, the main highlights include the castle chapel, the burgrave’s palace, the remains of the royal palace and the Great Tower, which offers views of Lake Mácha, Ralsko, the Central Bohemian Uplands and the surrounding forests.
Bezděz is also closely connected with Karel Hynek Mácha, who repeatedly visited the castle and drew inspiration from the local landscape. A trip to the castle combines well with a visit to Lake Mácha, Doksy or the surrounding forest trails.
