Geopark Ralsko

Geopark Ralsko reveals a rawer, less polished side of Máchův kraj. It stretches across the landscape of a former military area, where nature had decades to reclaim space and create a surprisingly varied world of forests, rocks, wetlands, ponds, volcanic hills and quiet paths. This is a northern landscape that does not need to impress at first glance – its pull lies in the many layers it hides.

Within the geopark, geology, nature and the history of a place long closed to ordinary visitors come together. Sandstone formations, basalt hills, deep forests, the floodplains of the Ploučnice and the remains of vanished settlements show how dramatically the landscape has changed over time. A trip here can lead to Ralsko, the Ploučnice Gorge, the area around Hamr na Jezeře, Mimoň or along lesser-known trails where views, water, stone and traces of the past alternate.

Geopark Ralsko is well suited for hiking, cycling trips and quieter exploration beyond the busiest places of Máchův kraj. It will appeal to those looking for nature with a story: a landscape shaped by volcanoes, rivers, sandstone, military history and the return of life to places that were inaccessible for many years.
