Crystal Valley

Glassmaking, costume jewellery and jewellery craft belong to Northern Bohemia as naturally as its mountains, forests and views. The tradition of glass production has been developing here for more than 700 years and is still visible today in glassworks, bead-pressing workshops, cutting rooms, schools and family studios across the Liberec Region. It is this exceptional concentration of techniques, crafts and stories that makes Crystal Valley a glassmaking and jewellery region of global significance. Visitors can follow the journey of glass from molten material to finished object – from blown ornaments, beads and costume jewellery to contemporary design.

The uniqueness of the local glassmaking tradition is also confirmed by its inscription on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage, which includes both the handmade production of glass bead Christmas ornaments from Poniklá and handmade glass production as such.
