Where to enjoy the best view around Liberec?

An absolute classic that never disappoints is Ještěd. This landmark above Liberec offers some of the most impressive views in the entire region. In good visibility, you can see not only the Jizera Mountains and the Giant Mountains, but far into Bohemia and towards Germany as well. The summit is also crowned by the iconic mountain hotel and television transmitter, one of the best-known works of modern Czech architecture.

If you would like to see Liberec from a completely different perspective, climb the tower of Liberec Town Hall. From the gallery more than sixty metres above the ground, you can look out over the historic city centre and the wider surroundings. A visit also gives you the chance to see the impressive historic interiors of this Neo-Renaissance building.

If you follow Masarykova Street (which is unfortunately currently undergoing reconstruction, so please expect some restrictions), you can combine your walk with a visit to the North Bohemian Museum. The tour also includes access to its tower, which offers a pleasant view of the villa district around Masarykova Street, the museum’s historic building and the Liberec skyline. Masarykova Street is also a pleasant route for a shorter walk, gradually leading you to another viewpoint, Liberecká výšina. Its stone tower, reminiscent of a castle watchtower, offers beautiful views of Liberec and the ridges of the Jizera Mountains, and you can round off your trip with a meal or drink in the local restaurant.

If you are looking for a romantic spot in the mountains, do not miss the Proseč lookout tower. Hidden in the forest, it offers a peaceful setting and lovely views of the surrounding countryside. Another popular stop is Královka, one of the most beautiful lookout towers in the Jizera Mountains. And there is good news for anyone who is not keen on climbing high towers: you can also enjoy a fine view from the lookout point below the tower. After the climb, stop at the adjoining mountain hotel, known for its pleasant atmosphere and good food. Nearby stands the Slovanka lookout tower, the oldest iron lookout tower in Bohemia. From its platform 14 metres above the ground, you can enjoy views of the Jizera Mountains ridges and down into the valley towards Jablonec nad Nisou. Thanks to the short distances between these sites, several towers can easily be combined into one pleasant trip. Another worthwhile stop is the Císařský kámen lookout tower, reached by a very easy walk from the car park and offering excellent views of both Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou. It is also just a short distance from the main road between Liberec and Prague, making it a convenient quick stop along the way.

For those looking for lesser-known but equally fascinating places, Dračí vrch near Chrastava is an excellent choice. With binoculars, you can see not only Ještěd but also more distant mountain ranges in Poland and Germany. Similarly, Červený kámen on the slopes of the Jizera Mountains has a special atmosphere and makes a good destination for a short walk with beautiful views of Liberec and Ještěd.

As you can see, the Liberec area has no shortage of viewpoints, and each offers a slightly different perspective of the city and surrounding landscape.
