Visitors can explore the story of the Česká Lípa region through natural history, archaeology, urban history and fine art. The building itself is worth visiting, as is the monastery garden with its lapidarium, which offers a quieter stop right in the town.
Museum branches
The Karel Hynek Mácha Memorial in Doksy, dedicated to one of the most important Czech Romantic poets, is currently being prepared and is undergoing reconstruction. After completion, it is expected to become an interactive centre of modern regional knowledge with a multisensory exhibition. In an experiential way, it will present not only Mácha’s life and work, but also different images of Máchův kraj as seen in his time and today.
The complex will also include a newly renovated tourist hostel with themed rooms referring both to Mácha’s story and to the building’s historic use as a hospital.
The museum also includes an exhibition in Vísecká rychta in Kravaře, one of the best-preserved timbered buildings in the region. It presents rural life in the Podralsko area, traditional housing, farming and the everyday life of village inhabitants, suitably complementing the urban exhibitions in Česká Lípa.
Another branch is Šatlava, which introduces historical imprisonment, judiciary and the everyday reality of law enforcement in the past.
