At the summit of Ještěd, 1,012 metres above sea level, stands one of the most remarkable Czech buildings of the 20th century. Architect Karel Hubáček combined a television transmitter, mountain hotel and restaurant into a single elegant tower that seems to grow naturally from the mountain itself. His bold design earned him the prestigious Auguste Perret Prize, and Ještěd became a symbol of courage, originality and technical elegance.
How to get to Ještěd
You can reach Ještěd on foot along marked hiking trails, park at the Ještědka visitor car park, or use the seasonal tourist bus. Tourist bus line 79 runs from the final tram stop in Horní Hanychov.
Operation of bus line 79 in 2026:
April and October: service on weekends and public holidays, running once an hour.
May, June and September: daily service, running once an hour.
July and August: daily service with a more frequent 30-minute interval.
Another option is the Skalka chairlift from the Ještěd Ski Resort. From its upper station, a pleasant ridge walk leads towards the transmitter.
But Ještěd is more than an architectural icon. Thanks to the Ještěd Ski Resort, it is a year-round destination for movement, experiences and active relaxation just a few minutes from the centre of Liberec. In winter, it offers ski slopes, skiing, snowboarding, family facilities and views that make the journey upwards truly worthwhile. In summer, visitors can enjoy the Skalka chairlift, ridge walks, a bike park, and e-bike and off-road scooter rental.
